“The contribution that the league makes to sensible and enlightened debate on issues of national importance is lamentable and is consistently characterised by a crude proclivity to descend into abusive and intimidatory rhetoric.” – Chamber of Mines CEO Zoli Diliza after the ANCYL reacted badly to the chamber’s recent criticism of nationalising mines.

“There are scores, but I just can’t remember now. You can’t deny it. It’s a fact our justice system hasn’t been transformed.” – Deputy Police Minister Maggie Sotyu, quoted in Beeld, claiming that black criminals receive harsher sentences than their white counterparts.

“If we can turn the toilets into a source of revenues, then they will want to use the toilets.” – Durban’s head of water and sanitation Neil MacLeod, on a proposal to pay people to use toilets that capture urine only, which will be turned into fertiliser, quoted by AFP.

“Not only is the ANCYL of the Northern Cape out of line for rubbishing the state security agencies and the courts of law, but should also publicly apologise to Advocate Simelane for calling him ‘a rented dog of a political conspiracy’.” – ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu after the provincial youth league insulted the NPA head for his decision to prosecute Northern Cape finance MEC John Block for alleged tender fraud.
