Power Life

Power FM (98.7)

Mondays to Fridays

7pm to 9pm

Power FM’s Power Life, a health, lifestyle and sex talk show hosted by TV and radio darling Masechaba Lekalake, would make even Oprah Winfrey proud. She offers an insightful and solutions-driven mix without resorting to a holier-than-thou tone.

Her easy manner on the show has earned Power Life the MTN Best Night Time Show award and we’re not surprised.

We’re not all fans of talk radio, especially the type that elevates the presenter as a god, but it is refreshing to have real issues tackled without the gimmicks and the theatrics employed by Lekalake’s peers elsewhere.

Power Life surges with informative, current and hard-hitting conversations presented in a caring, conversational way. As they say, the show “confronts the demons that confront each and every one of us regardless of race, class or status”.

These are often taboo topics, but Power Life allows “real people with real issues” a chance to air their niggling problems, thereby helping others with similar problems lighten their loads. The result is radio in its purest and simplest form.

Power Life towers above its competition because of the way the host handles herself and the most important element of her show: the listeners.

She allows us into the conversations by not pushing her opinion, but that of her guests and experts.

The views of these “experts” are at times too unconventional, but that is how conversations need to happen, the dominant and less dominant views should all be part of our discourse as we seek guidance, clarity and solutions to issues affecting us daily.

Here we have two hours of “live your best life” radio with topics ranging from living with HIV to talking to your kids effectively to allowing minority groups a platform to freely converse with the world.

The only downside is Lekalake’s strange twang, which could be attributed to her seven-year US stint.
