Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will represent President Jacob Zuma at the funeral of Zambian President Michael Sata, the presidency said.

“On his arrival and later on Monday, deputy president Ramaphosa will participate with other heads of state and government in paying their respects during the viewing ceremony of the body of the late president Sata as it lies in state in Lusaka,” it said in a statement today.

“On Tuesday ... Ramaphosa will join other dignitaries and mourners during the state funeral of the late president Sata.”

Ramaphosa would return to South Africa on Tuesday after the funeral.

Sata died in a London hospital last month aged 77.
