‘Randall’s just not that into me,’ says Haze

On numerous occasions Randall Abrahams has criticised top 4 Idols contender Mark Haze’s budding singing career and experience outside Idols.

Countless times he has said he worries he will lose votes and appear arrogant to fans because it looks like “he doesn’t need this as much as the others”.

But Haze is not taking this lying down.

“I think Randall is running out of things to say. He’s just not that into me. I know I’m not his favourite or the one he wants to win,” he says.

Although he says there is mutual respect between them in terms of “musicianship” they have a “love-hate” relationship.

“Standing there on stage in the bottom 3 on Tuesday night I could just see it written on his face: ‘Ha! There he is in the bottom 3. I told you!’”

You may have not known that this dark horse is already an Idol in the US.

The rock singer entered and won the the American Idol Experience in Disneyland last year in November while visiting the Orlando city centre one day with his wife.

“It was so silly. It looked like a karaoke competition but it was actually the real deal,” he says.

It was this experience that got him to wake up early one February morning to audition for Idols in Cape Town.

And just three weeks before the final he is sitting comfortably in the top four with a solid support base.

“I call myself the dark horse because I don’t think anyone, including myself, expected I would make it this far in the competition.”

He is also the lead vocalist for the live rock band, 12th Avenue, which has three albums to its name.

The band’s success, he says, is because of their motto that “musicians must also be businessmen”.
