Rape charges against cops dropped

2012-03-17 07:26

Charges have been withdrawn against two Johannesburg policemen accused of raping two sisters in Sandton last year, the Independent Complaints Directorate said.

Spokesperson Moses Dlamini said yesterday DNA tests had excluded them as suspects.

“Blood was drawn from the suspects for DNA analysis with the samples taken from the victims. No male DNA was found, which excludes the policemen as suspects,” he said.

“The complaints directorate has been informed by the director of public prosecutions that charges have been withdrawn.”

The two were accused of raping two sisters at different places on December 2.

The policemen did stop at the complex where the sisters lived, but tracking records showed that they were not placed at the scene of the rapes, Dlamini said.
