Rappers delight on the night

2011-04-30 14:23

Every last Thursday of the month, Joburg party people get together at Moyo’s in Melrose Arch in Jozi to be entertained by various live acts.

This week’s theme was Rapper’s Delight, and a host of popular and award-winning hip-hop artists came out in droves to give a high-energy performance.

Pro, Proverb, Jr, AKA, Tumi from Tumi and the Volume, Khuli Chana, Lungelo and Nothende crowded the too-small stage giving the audience something to scream about.

A nd interestingly, all of these rappers have collaborated with one another at some stage, so the synergy was really tight.

The show kicked off with Proverb, who was later joined by AKA for their hit track Victory Lap. AKA made way for Tumi who also features on one of AKA’s songs.

Tumi introduced Khuli Chana who roped in Jr for their joint hit song, No More Hunger.

They were then followed by Pro who closed off the show by inviting the rest of the “gang” to freestyle on the 1990s classic hip-hop song Rapper’s Delight by The Sugar Hill Gang.

Now that’s hip-hop for you, china!

By the way, the venue is a dungeon-cum-cave that can get really hot, so it was perfect for the chilly Jozi night.

The audience included half of the local entertainment industry who stayed behind until the wee hours of Friday morning, dancing to the old skool hip-hop tunes compiled by DJs Khenzero and 1D.
