Ref cost us a point – CAR coach

2013-03-24 10:01

Central African Republic coach Herve Loungoundji has blamed their 2-0 defeat to South Africa on match officials.

Loungoundji said CAF needed to do something about officiating as he felt they were robbed of a valuable point after officials disallowed a goal scored with a hand.

“I am not happy and this is one of the reasons African football is still lagging behind. We need to get good referees for our game to grow,” said Loungoundji.

He said he could not understand why the Ugandan referee Kalyango Ali changed his mind after he initially awarded the goal.

But he said he was confident CAR would get their revenge when they host South Africa in June.

“Bafana played well in front of their home supporters and we will see if they can do the same away. We beat Algeria, Egypt and Morocco at home and we want to protect our home record. I am not saying they cannot beat us at home but it will be difficult. This is football and anything is possible,” said Loungoundji.

He said they wanted to take advantage of playing two games at home to go to the summit of the group and enhance their chances of qualifying for Brazil.

He said they would reciprocate the good hospitality afforded to them by the South African Football Association.

“Everything here was world class, from hotels to training field and we want to thank Safa for hosting us very well and we will pay them back when they come there.”

He praised Bafana for a playing well and taking their chances but promised a different game in the return leg.
