Renault to continue Gordini legacy

2011-03-24 16:59

Last year, Renault launched the Twingo RS Gordini to pay homage to the legendary name. The motorsport heritage goes back to the 1950s.

The launch of the Clio RS Gordini will raise the bar and further broaden the appeal of Renault Sport on home ground.

The Twingo RS looked the part with its racing-blue body colour and white stripes yet its performance did not live up to its racing name.

Hopefully, the Clio RS will bring some justice. Its styling queues follow the same Gordini characteristics of a racing blue colour and twin white racing stripes across the car. It also has a lower suspension and white-painted exterior mirrors.

The Clio Gordini is set to launch at the third yearly Knysna Hillclimb on May 21 and 22.

The 1 000th Clio RS Gordini recently rolled off the assembly line at the Alpine plant in Dieppe, France, earlier this month.

The Clio is still one of the hottest hatches on the road and will delight motor-sport enthusiasts.
