Revolt after schoolboy’s murder

2012-03-03 13:30

Calm was restored at a Johannesburg school after pupils went on a destructive spree following the murder of a fellow pupil.

The Saturday Star reported that pupils at Vorentoe High School in Auckland Park went on the rampage yesterday morning after learning that the boys accused of the murder might be let out on bail.

A Grade 11 pupil was stabbed to death outside the school on Wednesday.

Police, armed with rubber bullets, Johannesburg Metro police and an ambulance arrived after school authorities called for help to deal with the rowdy group of teenagers.

The group smashed windows, wrote on walls and disrupted classes. Many parents came to take their children home for the day, the paper reported.

Five pupils from another school were arrested in connection with the murder.

The five appeared in the Newlands Magistrates Court yesterday, but police were unavailable to confirm the outcome.
