Road closures for Mandela memorial

A number of roads around Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium will shut down from midnight, the City of Johannesburg has announced.

This is to manage traffic flow before and during a state memorial service for Nelson Mandela, for which the stadium’s gates open at 6am.

In its statement, the city lists the following closures:

» The N1 will be closed at the corner of N1 and Rand Show Road

» Rand Show Road will then be closed at Aerodrome Road until the intersection of Nasrec Road

» Nasrec Road will be closed until corner of Soweto Highway

» Soweto Highway will be closed from Diepkloof until Booysens

» Booysens Reserve Road will be closed from Crownwood Road to Nasrec Road

» N17 will be closed at Nasrec Road at the circle

» Colorado Drive (continuation of Nasrec) will also be closed at the circle with N17

The city said in its statement that people wanting to access businesses in the Aeroton area should use the following deviation routes:

» Visitors and employees to Aeroton from the North must take M1 South, Right onto Eldorado Park/ Rand Show Road off ramp, Right into Rand Show Road, Left onto Aeroton Road and left onto Adcock Ingram.

» Visitors to Aeroton from the South must take N1 than left at Golden Highway off ramp, and then turn left onto Golden Highway proceed east, then turn left onto Chris Hani Road and turn right onto Aerodrome Drive.

The N1 and M1 highways will not be closed, and neither will Main Reef Road, the city said.
