It’s the million-rand question, isn’t it? How real are these so-called reality TV shows, anyway?

I found myself thinking this all over again at Club Kong in Rosebank, Joburg, on Thursday night as launched its new season of Rolling With?... This time it’s a Celeb Edition.

Instead of its usual format – following one celeb for a full season – the free-to-air channel is giving 13 famous faces the spotlight with an episode each.

They’ll be on our TV screens, but getting the celebs to the launch party was obviously trickier for the channel. Gospel queen Rebecca Malope, DJ Tira, rapper Reason and comedienne Tumi Morake were among those missing in action.

TV presenter Boity Thulo, the focus of episode two, was there to host the event alongside former YFM producer and fellow presenter Bujy Bikwa.

Thulo says her episode will show her family side – the shooting coincided with a family reunion.

Faded kwaito star Mzambiya also features. With a new album in the offing, the Zola-born artist has put his construction business on the back burner to give music another bash. The crowd got to hear two of his new singles. The response was, well, lukewarm.

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teko Modise hasn’t shot his episode yet, but told City Press he plans to “set the record straight” about several issues that have got him bad press.

Dr Malinga’s “colourful and raw life” kicks off – pardon the pun – the series today at 6.30pm.
