SA, SADC must pull their heads out of the sand on Zimbabwe

2011-03-25 10:54

South Africa and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) needed to acknowledge that the power-sharing deal in Zimbabwe had failed, the Christian Democratic Party said today.

“The dismal state of South Africa’s grasp of foreign realities is well demonstrated by Human Rights Watch’s observation that the power-sharing deal has failed, and also submits more than sufficient proof of their evaluation.

“Yet, South Africa persists with the farce,” said party spokesman Dr Christo Landman.

“We call on the government to halt the ostrich policy and treat Robert Mugabe as the tyrant he is.

“By handling him as a true leader, the wrong message is sent to the South African electorate and no one should be surprised that the ANC’s nomination process has developed typical one-party characteristics rather than an election fought at the ballot box.”
