South African actress Rosie Motene has allegedly been assaulted in Botswana, the department of international relations has said.

“I called the South African embassy in Gaborone and two officials from the embassy went to assist her,” said the department’s spokesperson, Clayson Monyela.

Monyela said he was alerted to the incident when Motene asked for help on her Twitter page.

She tweeted: “I need assistance from SA, I was beaten in Botswana and currently in Bokamo hospital, police wont come and I need assistance! No Joke.”

Motene played the role of a journalist in the soapie Generations.

Monyela said embassy officials had met with doctors in Botswana who said she was strong enough to travel back to South Africa.

“A family member will meet her at the airport and she will receive medical attention in South Africa,” said Monyela.

It was not known why she had been in Botswana. publishes all comments posted on articles provided that they adhere to our Comments Policy. Should you wish to report a comment for editorial review, please do so by clicking the 'Report Comment' button to the right of each comment.
