SA gives R7m to Ugandan school

2011-01-21 14:29

Equipment worth R7 million will be donated to the Oliver Tambo School of Leadership in Kawaweta, Uganda, President Jacob Zuma announced today.

Books would also be sent to the school, as Zuma had promised during a state visit to that country last year.

The defence and military veterans department would liaise with their counterparts in Uganda in this regard.

Zuma was speaking at a press briefing in Pretoria following a meeting with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

In their meeting the two reflected on developments in East Africa, as well as global and multilateral matters of concern.

Zuma said they emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral relations in a number of fields, including energy and agriculture.

“Of particular importance is the need to prioritise economic co-operation through trade and investment, thus creating job opportunities in our respective countries.”

Zuma said the SA-Ugandan business forum would help identify further areas of economic co-operation between the private sectors of the two countries.

Museveni is in the country on a two-day state visit, which will be concluded in KwaZulu-Natal with a visit to the battlefield of Isandlwana.

Zuma and Museveni today made their way to Freedom Park for a wreath laying ceremony.
