SA man shot in Australia

A South African believed to have emigrated to Australia because of crime was shot while walking along a beachfront esplanade with his family, Australian media reported.

The Courier Mail reported that 42-year-old Hylton Miller was walking along Surfers Paradise Esplanade when two shots were fired from the direction of beachfront apartments on Saturday night. He had reportedly been shot in front of his wife, 15-year-old son, 13-year-old daughter and a baby, plus four other relatives.

He was reported to be in a drug-induced coma on Sunday.

The publication said that a friend revealed Miller was shot at previously in South Africa, and that he and his family had left about seven years ago “for what they thought would be a safer life”.
