South Africa will host the world anti-doping conference in Johannesburg in November next year, the sports ministry has announced.

Speaking at the signing of a memorandum of agreement with the City of Joburg in Sandton today, Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula said the event will run from November 13 to 15.

“This is our commitment to a drug-free sport. We appreciate the work that the SA Institute for a Drug-Free Sport does in our sport. We continue to lead the continent in the implementation and support for anti-doping in sport,” he said.

The conference, which takes place every four years, was previously hosted by Switzerland, Denmark and Spain.

Mbalula said he expected an increase in the number of delegates to the Joburg conference. “The 2013 event must be the best and leave a lasting impression,” he said.
