SABC confirms radio DJ Eddie Zondi’s passing

Metro FM radio DJ Eddie Zondi has died, the SABC has confirmed.

“We confirm as the SABC that we received the sad news that Eddie Zondi passed on this morning,” SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said today.

The public broadcaster sent its condolences to Zondi’s family.

Kganyago could not confirm reports that the radio personality had suffered a heart attack.

According to Metro FM spokesperson Happy Ngidi, Zondi was rushed to hospital in the early hours of the morning after complaining of chest pains.

Ngidi was at Zondi's home in Ruimsig, west of Johannesburg when it happened.

Zondi (47) was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. He is survived by his wife, Phakamile Zondi.
