SABC rearranges soapies for Mandela

2013-12-11 08:36

Some of the regular programmes on SABC2 have been rearranged to allow for the additional coverage following the death of former president Nelson Mandela.

“The passing of our iconic founding father has necessitated these changes as we strive to bring around-the-clock coverage of this great man to millions of viewers countrywide,” spokesperson Zandile Nkonyeni said in a statement.

“Our viewers can still catch their favourite shows on our sister channels during this time and we will make an announcement once everything goes back to normal,” she said.

Popular soap operas Generations and Muvhango would be broadcast on SABC1 for the rest of the week at 8pm and 8.30pm, respectively, while 7de Laan and Isidingo would be broadcast on SABC3 at 6.30pm and 7.30pm, respectively.

SABC1 would broadcast an hour-long special of Khumul’Ekhaya today at 9pm.

On the sports front, the third One Day International cricket match between the Proteas and India would be broadcast live on SABC3 today from 1pm.

A special episode of Top Billing would be aired on SABC3 tomorrow from 9.30pm, paying tribute to Madiba.

Nkonyeni said the broadcast details of Mandela’s funeral on Sunday had yet to be finalised and would be announced closer to the time.
