South African swimmers Chad le Clos and Roland Schoeman have reached the men’s 100m butterfly final and 50m freestyle final respectively at the Olympic Games.

Gideon Louw tonight just missed out on a spot in the 50m freestyle final. He finished fifth in the first heat in a time of 21.92 seconds.

Schoeman finished fourth in the second heat in a time of 21.88 seconds, which was enough to sneak into the final.

Le Clos achieved the second-fastest time in the 100m butterfly semifinals (51.42 seconds), behind his icon, Michael Phelps of the US. They face off in the final tomorrow night.

In the 200m breaststroke final, Suzaan van Biljon finished seventh in a time of 2:23.72. America’s Rebecca Soni won gold in a world record time of 2:19.56.

Karin Prinsloo also missed out on a spot in the 200m backstroke final.
