Sactwu welcomes Zuma’s address

Textile workers’ union Sactwu yesterday welcomed President Jacob

Zuma’s second state of the nation address, particularly comments about labour

related matters.

The union wanted increased resources to be allocated for policies

to build labour industries, spokesman Andre Kriel said in a statement.

“The Sactwu has noted the president’s statements... that industrial

policy will build labour-absorbing industries, that the broad policy direction

will be practically detailed in implementation strategies to be announced by the

responsible ministries, that ministers will be required to sign target

performance agreements, and that 2010 will be a year of action. We welcome


The union looked forward to the details and called for increased

resources to build labour-absorbing industries, such as clothing and textiles.
