The South African Football Association (Safa) has confirmed today that Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund will remain in charge of the national side until the end of his contract in June.

Igesund’s job came under scrutiny after Bafana Bafana’s failed to qualify for the 2014 Fifa World Cup. The team also failed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Chan tournament on home soil.

Before that,Igesund also battled at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, also on home soil, by only reaching the quarter-final stage and eventually bowing out on penalties to Mali.

It is believed that Safa will not be offering Igesund a new deal on the balance of his performance in these three events once his contract expires.

There have also been media reports that the coach tried to influence the players to ask for more bonus money from the association, something that did not sit well with Safa’s top brass.

Safa confirmed that an investigation into the matter will be carried out.
