Safa send condolences to Tshabalala family

The South African Football Association (Safa) has sent its deepest condolences to the Tshabalala family following the sudden death of the mother of Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala.

Safa has learnt with shock that Ms Rebecca Hadifele Tshabalala lost her life on Sunday, December 5, after being hospitalised for a short time.

Her death comes shortly after her son was chosen as the Footballer of the Year, at the 2010 Safa Awards, held on December 3.

The following day the midfielder helped his club to successfully defend their Telkom Knockout trophy by scoring one of the goals against their old rivals, Orlando Pirates.

He dedicated the victory to his then sick mother.

The South African Football Association President Kirsten Nematandani says their prayers are with the Tshabalala’s.

“The Tshabalala family has provided South Africa with a national asset and an inspiration to the youth in Siphiwe, and as football we take solace in the knowledge that the late Mrs Tshabalala witnessed history together with billions of people around the world when her son Siphiwe Tshabalala scored the first goal of the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa.

“On behalf of the football family, I convey our heartfelt condolences to the Tshabalala family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in these difficult times. We wish you strength and good health as you come to terms with the bereavement. May the soul of Rebecca Hadifele Tshabalala rest in peace,” said Nematandani.
