May we please take a moment to stop everything and stare at Lloyd Cele for a minute? The 2011 SA Idols finalist has done a Jennifer Hudson on us and dropped a whopping 20kg or more.

He literally looks like half the man he used to be!

Cele was at the SA Music Awards (Samas) nominees’ celebration at The Sands in Sandton in the skinny musician’s uniform of tight pants, T-shirt and too long shoes. The jury’s still out on whether we like the new trimmed-down version.

The Sands was teeming with musicians and other industry heavyweights, with the VIP MTN corner the place to be. Sushi, biltong, roast lamb, vegetables and mounds of fruit decked the tables, and waiters in yellow bow ties ran up and down fetching drinks for guests.

The side of the marquee with the stage became an open dance floor and guests got down to the sounds of nominees Big Nuz, Mi Casa and Zonke, who were among the many performers there. The smoke machine was overworked to the max. Easy, guys ...

A random spotting was Jessica Motaung’s ex, Ken Simmons, in the thick of things, cap perched rakishly on head. Odd.

Kelly Khumalo looked like a little sex kitten in a mini/maxi combo and burgundy bodice. She’s on a serious comeback trial, that one, and not to be messed with.

If the party was any indication of the big shebang set for Sun City in May, it’s going to rock!
