Sangoma defrauds teacher of R1m

2013-04-24 16:04

A traditional healer has been arrested in Amalinda, East London, for allegedly defrauding a former teacher of more than R1 million.

“The bogus Ugandan traditional healer defrauded the teacher of her pension money,” said Hawks spokesperson Captain Paul Ramaloko.

The healer also promised that her “ancestors” would increase her money to R8 million and said her “ancestors” wanted her to quit her job, which she did.

“The teacher was made to resign from her employment in 2012 ... the money was taken by the traditional healer on different occasions,” said Ramaloko.

He said three other “bogus” doctors were also arrested and would appear with the traditional healer on fraud charges in the East London Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
