Scene City: Fashionably forward come out to play

2012-09-29 13:07

Whew! What a crazy week this has been.

The fashion set came out in full force for the South African Fashion Week launch, which unofficially kicked off on Wednesday with the Sheer Glamour Hair Show at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Rosebank, followed by the opening party in Kramerville on Thursday.

I nearly choked on my champers when I spotted Mavusana Ngwenya of O’Da Meesta fame at the hair show.

He said he’d just come back from “Afghanistan”, which apparently is kasi slang for drug addiction.

Now the former kwaito star is about to release a new album. “Not many people know that I can sing. I’m going to surprise you,” he proclaimed.

We’ll just have to wait and see about that.

As usual, Fashion Week brought out many celebrities, including the socialite couple that has taken over from the Booths, Gerry and Kerry Elsdon; Kgomotso Christopher; 5FM’s DJ Fiks (Fikile Moeti), who kept the crowd dancing in between shows; and even former face of L’Oréal Africa Primrose Moloantoa, who still looks ridiculously gorgeous a la Halle Berry.

On Thursday night Jozi socialites were spoilt for choice between the urban youth culture festival, STR CRD, at Maboneng Precinct in downtown, the Bitch, Please! I’m Khanyi Mbau book launch at Exclusive Books at Melrose Arch and R&B star Ciara’s party at Hush nightclub.

Hopefully, you all have your party outfits ready because judging by this past week alone, this season is about to get all kinds of crazy.
