Scene City: Jozi’s fur mafia take over Sandton

2012-06-16 12:30

Last week the Marion on Nicol boutique hotel in Sandton, north of Joburg, provided the perfect but cold backdrop for the exclusive Moët & Chandon event which hosted guests for the French Open men’s final.

A red carpet was laid out to the garden where a champagne bar was set up among plush suede and leather couches with faux fur throws for guests.

Half the guests didn’t even need the throws since they came carrying their own fur, which we can only hope was faux.

In fact, it looked more like a gathering of the dead animals society with all the fur and feathers.

Socialite and event planner Edith Venter’s black and red fur looked like it was still fresh off the animal’s torso while Josina Machel kept her neck warm with a feathered scarf.

New mum Basetsana Kumalo looked great and seemed to be enjoying the champers while her sister Johanna Mukoki was in high spirits after taking the best-dressed award – ahem! – for her military-inspired ensemble.

Carolyn Steyn, Hollywood actress and a social butterfly of late, looked gorgeous and warm in a red coat, fedora and a Chanel bag together with her colour coordinated chum and owner of Pallu boutique store Peta Eggierth-Symes.

Former Generations actress Sonia Sedibe faced the chill in a knee-length dress under a cream leather coat and high heels.

Even Jen Su looked fashionable in her green dress paired with an inoffensive hair accessory.

Rosie Motene, who’s been very busy with her film career, is now sporting a short hairdo but her outfit was positively criminal. While the Native American trend is hot right now, it is unforgivable to wear brown from head-to-toe.

The Booths, Matthew and Sonia, were surprisingly not colour coordinated.

But the pair made up for it by getting their picture taken in the fun photo booth. Oops! No pun intended.

There’s something so extravagant about spending a Sunday afternoon quaffing French champagne and eating barely-there finger foods.

And it didn’t matter that only a few guests watched Spanish cutie Rafael Nadal play Serbian Novak Djokovic in a match that was later suspended because of rain.
