Scene City: Posers conventionat footwear launch

2012-03-24 11:28

There aren’t many people around who know what Creative Recreation footwear is all about.

But Jozi-ites love to party, and they will attend the opening of an envelope if it means free drinks and a good time.

This week, this reporter found the Likers of Things lifetime membership card holders gathered at a Sandton venueon Rivonia Boulevard for the footwear launch.

You’ve got to love Jozi, people here go to a sneakers launch wearing high heels and cocktail dresses! That’s how they roll.

The California-based brand was brought to Mzansi by Daniel Kerdachi, who sayshe feels strongly about their success.

You can’t fault the guy, especially since it’s not the first time Creative Recreation has been here. There was actually a store in the trendy 44 Stanley in Milpark, not too long ago. Some of the people who already knew about the brand included DJ Lulo Café.

The belle of the ball, though, had to be Phuti Khomo. Sorry Pearl Thusi, your sequined bustier top and red tutu dress looked very cute, but Khomo beat you in one fell swoop. She wore heels to match her red satin dress.

And all bets were off when she pulled the “hands over stomach and vacant facial expression” pose. I haven’t seen a pose like that since, well, never. The Miss SA Teen 2002 – a title she still introduces herself by – left me speechless.

Other guests who tried but failed to steal attention away from Khomo’s spellbinding pose included dancers from the Repertoires collective, Mzansi Ridez show host Sthembiso “SK” Khoza and hip-hop artist Dylan King, who is the brand’s newly appointed ambassador.
