Search continues for missing Midmar Mile swimmer

2011-02-14 11:34

The search for Nick Mellet, who went missing in the water on the first day of the Midmar Mile on Saturday, continued today.

“The search continues today. We have helicopters and divers at the dam,” said Midmar Mile race director Wayne Riddin.

Mellet, who is from Johannesburg, took part in the race on Saturday. He did not reach the finish line.

Riddin said it was the first time a person had gone missing during the race.

“We don’t know what happened to him. One of the possibilities could be a heart attack, but we don’t want to speculate. Maybe we will know the cause once the body has been found,” he said.

He ruled out the possibility of a crocodile attack, saying there were no crocodiles in the dam.
