The search for a man presumed drowned in a leisure boat accident in the Witbank Dam is continuing, Mpumalanga police said.

“The police diving unit is here, they are in the dam searching,” said Captain Leonard Hlathi.

Divers were searching for the man since yesterday afternoon when the accident happened. He was believed to have been on the double-decker leisure boat that sank during a Christmas office party.

Two men, including the missing man, and four women drowned.

Fifteen people were able to make it to shore and sustained only minor injuries. Some fishermen rushed into the water to help. A short while after the boat sank, the bodies of two women were discovered.

The cause of the accident was not yet known.
