Sedibeng mayor arrested for drunk driving

2013-06-06 08:56

Sedibeng Mayor Mahole Simon Mofokeng was arrested for allegedly driving while drunk, after bumping into another car while leaving a Vanderbijlpark hotel.

Mofokeng spent Tuesday night in prison, The Star reported today.

Gauteng police spokesperson Brigadier Neville Malila confirmed that a sample of Mofokeng’s blood was taken at a hospital.

“He was only released (on Wednesday) morning, on R1 000 bail.

“He was released from the police station and did not have to appear in court.”

The case was postponed to September 5.

Mofokeng’s spokesperson Dan Manoeli said that, on another occasion in February, when Mofokeng fell over in a bar in Vanderbijlpark and had to be helped to his feet, it was suspected that his drink had been spiked.
