Selebi ‘collapses’

2011-12-02 10:16

Former police commissioner Jackie Selebi was taken to hospital shortly before 12:30pm amid reports that he had collapsed following the news that the appeal of his 15-year prison sentence had failed in the Supreme Court of Appeal.

Earlier, City Press reported that an ambulance had arrived at his Pretoria house.

The ambulance was parked in Selebi’s driveway with a stretcher at the ready. Selebi’s lawyer, Wynanda Coetzee, said his friends and family were “very worried” about him and were “trying to sort out his medical condition first”.

Coetzee was addressing journalists outside Selebi’s Pretoria home, where he had learnt that the appeal against his 15-year prison sentence had failed.

She would not confirm whether he had collapsed, but said his son, wife and nephew were with him.
