Selebi guilty

2010-07-02 10:26

Former national commissioner of police Jackie Selebi has been found guilty of corruption.

He was found not guilty on a charge of defeating the ends of justice.

Judgment was delivered in the South Gauteng High Court this morning.

Selebi sat with his shoulders slumped as his lawyer Jaap Cilliers and state prosecutor Gerrie Nel discussed whether bail should be extended, Sapa reported. Nel said because Selebi had been convicted of a schedule five offence he had no objection to bail being set.
The case was postponed to July 14 for sentencing.
