Selebi takes appeal news ‘badly’

2011-12-02 10:02

In the hours following the failure of disgraced former police commissioner Jackie Selebi’s court bid to stay a free man, friends and family members have continued to arrive at his home in the quiet Pretoria suburb of Waterkloof North.

Although Selebi initially appeared to welcome his guests at the gate, he has not re-emerged since the news broke that the Supreme Court of Appeal had dismissed his appeal against a 15-year corruption sentence.

Selebi has reportedly taken the news of the court’s judgment “badly”, and his health is said to be suffering.

Both Selebi’s son and brother are believed to be with him.

Earlier in the day, an Audi driven by a uniformed police officer arrived at the house with its immaculately trimmed lawn.

An unknown man took pictures of journalists gathered outside Selebi’s house.

Selebi has less than 48 hours to report for his sentence.
