‘Serial rapist’ arrested

2010-12-04 13:24

The son of a taxi driver who had allegedly been involved in 15 rapes in Johannesburg and Pretoria has been arrested.

“The man was arrested in Britz in North West at 3am this morning while he was sleeping,” said Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.

“After his photo was published in the media we received a tip-off from a member of the public which led to the man’s arrest.”

The man will appear in the Alexandra Magistrates Court on Monday facing charges of rape and robbery.

The rapes occurred around Randburg, Sandton, Alexandra and Douglasdale in Johannesburg and Wierdabrug in Pretoria.

Dlamini said the man’s father and a co-accused were arrested in August last year and their cases were pending in the Alexandra Magistrates Court.

“The suspects would pick up unsuspecting female passengers and drive to Olievenhoutbosch in the open veld where they would rape and rob the victims of their belongings.”

They allegedly used a Quantum Toyota and a Siyaya minibus.
