Seven arrested following Ottosdal farm assault

2010-11-23 15:34

Seven people, including three Ottosdal farmers, have been arrested for allegedly assaulting two men for using their farm roads.

Captain Aafje Bothma said the two men were using roads on the farmers’ property yesterday, when they were allegedly attacked.

She said: “We are not sure about the exact details of events that occurred, but two cases of assault were opened and arrests followed thereafter.”

Bothma could not comment on reports that the two assault victims were farm workers. “That will emerge through our investigations.”

One man sustained head injuries and the other was injured on the ears.

The SABC earlier reported that one of the victims only regained consciousness at the Ottosdal Hospital today.
He was admitted late yesterday.

The national broadcaster said the other four alleged attackers were farm workers.

The Congress of South African Trade Unions in North West said bail should not be granted to the seven alleged attackers.
