‘Sex slave’ case postponed

2012-03-20 13:08

The case against three men charged with human trafficking following a police raid at a Durban brothel last month has been postponed for a bail application.

The trio’s arrest drew media attention after the dramatic rescue by the Hawks of 16 young girls found at the brothel in Rochester Road at Durban Point.

The case has been postponed in the Durban Magistrates Court to April 25.

The young women are believed to have been held against their will, numbed with drugs and turned into sex slaves.

Two of the girls rescued were pregnant, while eight of the girls are believed to be underage. The youngest is 12 years old.

The men, aged 23, 29 and 37 cannot be named until they have pleaded. They face 63 charges related to human trafficking, dealing in cocaine and operating a brothel.

Charges against a 59-year-old brothel owner who was arrested along with the men have since been drop. It is believed that she has turned state witness.
