Shoe gazing in wintry Joburg

2011-05-28 14:31

Would you kill for shoes? If your answer is “no” then it’s a good thing you missed out on The Shoe Affair, hosted by Edgars Melrose Arch.

This is probably one of the only Edgars stores in which you will never see a “Red Hanger Sale” sign. It’s strictly for those prepared to spend serious cash.

Socialites, fashionistas and celebrities came in large numbers to see the store launch the international designer shoes that will now be available there.

The guests included Edith Venter wearing a former live animal and a cream Chinese suit. Fur coat aside, the woman oozes class.

Also at the event was Jennifer Su, who seems to make up songs about every event she MCs at – a very disturbing trend.

Spotted: Noni Gasa looking stylish as always and her 30s hairstyle, which was apparently for a shoot, was to die for.

Motswako presenter Penny Lebyane was also there, as was Thembi Seete, who strutted in late wearing red thigh-high boots with military-inspired detail, this season’s trend.

Jo-Ann Strauss was supposed to be at the launch, mainly because her charity was a recipient of the shoes that some of the guests brought to donate for those who can’t afford matric dance outfits.

However, the TV presenter kept tweeting from Nice, France, while en route to Monaco to attend the F1 Grand Prix and interview former Olympic swimmer and princess-in-waiting, Charlene Wittstock.

After several bottles of expensive drinks and copious amounts of oysters some of the guests left with extra luggage.
Moral of the story?

Don’t drink and shop
