Shrien Dewani to land in SA tomorrow

2014-04-07 15:20

Shrien Dewani will be formally charged with the murder of his wife Anni when he lands in Cape Town tomorrow, a justice department official has said.

National spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga said indications from the National Prosecuting Authority were that charges of conspiracy to commit murder and defeating the ends of justice still stood.

He said Dewani’s flight would take off from England tonight and would land in Cape Town tomorrow morning.

He would be taken directly to the high court at 11.30am and charged.

Mhaga was addressing journalists at the Western Cape High Court on the technical aspects of Dewani’s first appearance.

“It’s all systems go and preparations for his arrival are still underway,” Mhaga said.

Provincial justice department head Hishaam Mohamed said Dewani would not be taken to a police station first for processing, as was usually the case.

Courtroom 4 was packed with around 60 local and foreign journalists, photographers and videographers.
