South African World Boxing Association (WBA) super world featherweight champion Simphiwe “V12” Vetyeka has promised to defend his title successfully against Nonito Donaire of the Philippines.

Vetyeka was speaking at the OR Tambo International Airport this morning before his departure to Macau for the fight, scheduled for next Saturday.

“I will beat Donaire convincingly as I have humiliated fighters better than him in the past. Victory is the only thing on my mind because I am the chosen one,” said the pugilist from Duncan Village in East London.

Vetyeka (33) is the only African boxer who holds a WBA super world belt. The championship is considered to be the most prestigious in the world.

He took the belt from Chris John of Indonesia, who was champion for five years, in Australia in December. But the physical confrontation with Donaire will not be a walk in the park for “V12”.

Vetyeka said: “Donaire’s only strength is his ability to catch his opponents with a surprise punch, but I hope he is well prepared to face me because I am. Even if the fight was tomorrow, I’m more than ready.”

In Vetyeka’s corner will be respected trainers Lennox Mpulampula and former International Boxing Federation super bantamweight king, Vuyani “The Beast” Bungu, who defended his title a record 13 times before he retired from the game in 2005.
