Kaizer Chiefs has unveiled five new players who may get a chance to play in the Carling Black Label Cup against Pirates on Saturday.

In addition to Siphelele Mthembu from Platinum Stars and Levy Mokgothu from Moroka Swallows, three youngsters – Zitha Macheke, Pule Ekstein and Chris Matombo – have been promoted from the club’s development ranks.

But the team’s football manager Bobby Motaung said they could still go to the market, and they have until the end of next month to register players.

Motaung also said the club had only one foreign space remaining and would be cautious how to fill it.

He said they were assessing two foreigners – Togolese international striker Francis Koné, and Ovidy Karuru from Zimbabwe, who featured in the 4-2 pre-season friendly win over Chippa United on Sunday.

“We are not in a rush to sign players and we are not like other clubs that buy five, six or 10 players. We have a process here at Chiefs,” said Motaung.

He said they were still negotiating with German club Hoffenheim on the services of striker Knowledge Musona, who spent last season on loan to Chiefs.

“Musona is still undergoing rehab but soon we will make an announcement about him. We will finalise the issue in a week’s time,” said Motaung.
