Snoop Lion wore a leopard skin and headgear with the “blessing” of the Zulu royal family during his recent visit to South Africa for the MTV Africa All Stars gig.

The Zulu royal family released a statement after reports that Snoop angered the family by wearing the traditional garb, called umqhele.

Prince Simengaye Zulu said: “As Snoop has previously showed his love for the Zulu nation and South Africa at large, he was warmly welcomed by the Zulu princes and princesses.

“We, as the children of the nation, welcome everybody – whether they are black, red, white, yellow or pink – as we are a house of togetherness.

The family was happy to give the attire to Snoop, which the rapper accepted wholeheartedly “and which he wore on stage with our blessing”.

“We hope to be able to present Snoop with the complete Zulu attire/costume (imvunulo) with beads when he next returns,” Zulu said.
