Soccer: Who to watch this weekend

2014-03-14 15:31

Tomorrow’s Soweto derby might be all anyone’s talking about, but there are other important Absa Premiership games worth a watch this weekend.

The action kicks off tonight at 8pm with a KwaZulu-Natal derby between Maritzburg United and AmaZulu at Harry Gwala Stadium.

United seem to have turned the corner since the arrival of Steve Komphela from Free State Stars, and Usuthu have been blowing hot and cold. They lost their last game against Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday, and United beat Free State Stars on Tuesday.

Apart from the Soweto derby, all eyes will be on other title contenders Bidvest Wits, who host struggling Free State Stars tomorrow evening.

At Loftus, Sundowns will welcome Polokwane City, who stunned them in the first round. Sundowns will be looking to avenge that defeat, and City wants to move away from the relegation zone.

Mpumalanga Black Aces will take on Moroka Swallows at Kanyamazane Stadium.

On Sunday, Bloemfontein Celtic host SuperSport United at Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium and the last game of the weekend is in Cape Town, where Ajax lock horns with the resurgent University of Pretoria.
