Fashionistas descended on the first major social of the year. Fashion critics Lesley Mofokeng, Sdu Gerasch and Paledi Segapo make the final ruling on who made the cut

Tumisho and Zozibini Masha. Picture: Peroni Sa

Lesley: I thought the fit of Tumisho’s suit could have been better and while Zozi is smoking hot, the belt is too big.

Sdu: Rule number one: never outdo your woman. Tumisho looks amazing but I don’t know what’s going on with his wife. Her whole look is outrageous.

Paledi: Tumisho’s suit does not look tailored. Thankfully, the missus comes to the rescue with her gorgeous vintage look.

Lesley: Kudos to the Seates. I love how the different hues of blue complement each other. Not a fan of Stoan’s blue suede shoes, though. Let’s leave those to Elvis.

Sdu: Ridiculously amazing! This is the best-dressed couple and thanks, Stoan, for not wearing brown shoes.

Paledi: I am drooling over this couple and give props to the brilliant stylist that put this look together. Everything here looks beyond perfect

Lesley: They look like your less classy cousins from the wrong side of the tracks who sneaked in to the family party and who you don’t want your friends to see.

Sdu: I have no words. Nice tattoo, though.

Paledi: This couple would look unapologetically fierce at the annual PTA meeting. I know stilettos never work on grass, but I find wedges create a brick-shoe effect.

Leigh-Anne Williams. Picture: Kevin Petersen

Lesley: Thank goodness Leigh-Anne has donated her collection of ball gowns to the local charity. Now she can show off her great body. I love the colour of the dress and the gold makes her stand out. Way to go!

Sdu: Nice dress for the mother of the bride, great body, flawless make-up.

Paledi: This is absolutely gorgeous, completed by classic aviator shades. Minimalist beauty deluxe, we love it.

Phat Joe. Picture: Kevin Petersen

Lesley: I love Joe’s wacky sense of style, plus it’s practical for a hot day. This look says “rebel”.

Sdu: It’s the Queen’s Plate, not the first day of school!

Paledi: Phat Joe looks provocative and this is a brave fashion move. I like the fact that he broke the rules and doesn’t look like anyone else, but I would have replaced the basic cap with a panama hat, perhaps.

Comedian and actor Siv Ngesi scooped the best dressed man award. Picture: Kevin Petersen

Lesley: Doesn’t he look more like Johnny Bravo than Superman? He’s overly accessorised with a pin, a pocket square, a bow tie and shades.

Sdu: Simple yet elegant. I wonder how many women Mr Superman rescued that day?...

Paledi: Easy fitted look for buffo-saurus over here. I do love this ensemble, though, including the contrasting colours. Two accessories I love are the sunnies and the bow tie. Is Superman necessary, though?

Cindy Nell-Roberts in an all-white ensemble that won her the best dressed woman award. Picture: Kevin Petersen

Lesley: Looking like a second-time bride or mother of the bride, this hideous dress ages her. I wonder how she won the best dressed of the day. There’s no justice in the world.

Sdu: Beautiful dress?…?but the bird’s nest on her head didn’t tickle my fancy.

Paledi: The concept looks almost right, but not quite. The look is bridal to me, while the slit and cleavage gives it a risqué look. The fascinator looks like a wedding cake garnished with ostrich feathers.
