Social – Legacy Live a knockout

2013-04-28 10:00

The Glenlivet Legacy Live event at Katy’s Palace Bar in Sandton is on my top 10 events of the year so far.

It had all the right ingredients: chic setting, mellow vibe, great drinks, and mature and eclectic guests.

I found myself imagining what the New York loft-style venue would be like as living quarters. The exposed beams and red brick are offset by the big bay windows that lead to a terrace overlooking the Joburg skyline.

The guests, there by invitation only, lounged while indulging in designer fish and chips, guacamole-dipped potato wedges, bowls of Thai chicken curry, and lamb stew on herbed mash.

The drink of choice was Glenlivet whisky and Pongracz.

Bridget Masinga-Khati was the host, and looked toned down in a form-fitting brown dress that showed off a suspicious bump and full cleavage. Anything you want to tell us, Bridge?

I enjoyed a catch-up session with DJ and designer Wandi Nzimande of Loxion Kulca, who kept us moving between sets with old-school tunes, when not cutting business deals with club manager Chris Nkosi.

The man of the moment, Selaelo Selota, was just great on stage. He and his band had the crowd wolf-whistling and screaming for the better part of the night.

Generations’ resident madwoman, Nambitha Mpumlwana, showed off her legs in a cute printed babydoll dress. The funny moment of the evening came when a mortified Manaka Ranaka confessed to greeting Mpumlwana by her character name Mawande. That’s what happens when an actor is that good.

KayaFM was the sponsor so it was no surprise that the place was teeming with its staff.

This was the perfect shindig to usher in a different season with a different audience.
