Social – SA’s Elite Model winner

2013-11-02 15:18

There was no sign of ugly rivalry among the contestants when Elite Model Look announced its South African winner: Bianca Rentzker from Joburg.

All nine models who had taken part in the gruelling contest gathered around Rentzker at the Sandton Convention Centre last night to congratulate her for being selected as Africa’s representative in the final of the global contest.

While no effort was made to explain how the judges had made their decision, the organisers did make an effort to keep guests entertained.

Best International Artist (Africa) nominee Toya DeLazy opened the evening with a lukewarm performance and got an equally lukewarm response from the crowd.

Angolan singer Sandra Da Silva Cordeiro and compatriot Kuduro Francisco Alexandre (Francis Boy) got the crowd clapping – more for his dancing than his singing. The headline act was none other than Best African Act LCNVL, who got cheers and nods from the women in the house.

The models strutted their stuff, dressed in Thula Sindi’s ready-to-wear range, which the Klerksdorp-born designer said was “inspired by blue, black, pink and contemporary African prints to make the models stand out as Africans”.

This was followed with swimwear by Banana Moon and couture by Kluk CGDT before the much-anticipated announcement was made.

Former Miss Universe Leila Lopes and Expresso’s Ewan Strydom, the hosts for the evening, at times tried too hard to keep it light.

Rentzker scored a modelling contract with Da Banda Model Management and will soon travel the world and represent South Africa at the prestigious Elite Model Look World Final, to be held in China.
