Social – Snoop Lion for shizzle

Amazeballs! The US rapper-turned-reggae star still has it – big up.

It’s not everyday that one gets called Jah Lady by Snoop Lion.

So when the rapper-turned-reggae star addressed me as such in front of a multitude of African journalists at his press conference in Durban, I could have jumped up and started twerking.

Last weekend was all about the rapper formerly known as Snoop Dogg, as he did a three-city tour of the nation.

But it was at the MTV Base Africa All Stars concert in Durban that he rocked the most, with about 13?500 fans from across the Mother Continent in attendance.

The fun kicked off with a Friday night preconcert party where Durban socialites mingled with some of Egoliwood.

We spotted Speedy, sans towel, looking a bit lost, while the likes of fashionista David Tlale and ProVerb the rapper were enjoying some adoration and having fun.

We are still not happy though with house band Mi Casa pitching up after midnight for a performance.

On Saturday evening, the massive VIP marquee was teeming with revellers.

TV personality Penny Lebyane rocked up in her latest signature gear of head wrap and heels. The look is yet to grow on some of us.

The view from the VIP space was the best. Big up to the production crew. The stage was on point, from the lights to the sound and even the live feed on the screens was crisp and in time.

Guests were treated to a full-course meal at multiple food stations and the grub never ran out, just like the free-flowing spirits at the bar. We thank you, MTV.

DJ Cleo opened up the concert and Zahara followed.

A gyrating competition took place between Congolese Fally Ipupa and Flavour of Nigeria. I confess, I too was drooling and screaming throughout their acts.

While still looking around for my veggie meals in between the beef curry and kebabs, I saw local boy L’vovo in the crowd.

He looked like he was sending an SOS for a stylist as well as a membership to the nearest gym.

Really, obesity ain’t cute no more.

Spikiri was there to see his idol, Snoop, while T’zozo, who was once famous, was snubbed by the crowd.

On stage, D’banj was doing it as people danced and sang along. The Nigerian is a charismatic character you can’t help but love.

Snoop worked the crowd into a frenzy as he called out, “What’s my muthaf***en name!”

He ended the show with an a cappella rendition of Young, Wild and Free with all the All Stars on stage. Amazeballs!

The afterparty at Cuba was just as good. Snoop took pictures with his fans and got everyone to whip out their joints whe he lit his up.

I jetted back to Jozi to recover from my sore back and regain my voice.

It was hot, fo shizzle.
