As Women’s Month draws to a close, young women braved the chilly Joburg weather on Thursday night for an evening of girl talk and fashion tips and trends at the Skip Fashion Exchange.

The event took place at the industrial-chic Katy’s Palace Bar in Sandton. The premise was to “bring three fashion items you want to exchange”.

As the women trickled in, some made their way to the main dining area while others headed upstairs, where their items were checked and certified with appropriate stickers.

The canapés and welcome drinks did the rounds, and so did my brain – until then, I had never been surrounded by so many young, beautiful women all at once.

I revelled in the presence of these fashionable women. Bonang Matheba looked stunning in the same simple, white dress she wore to the J&B Met preparty earlier this year.

She was the fabulous host and later posed for group selfies.

I wonder what the rules say about A-listers like her wearing their favourite clothes again.

The Front Row on Metro FM returnee encouraged young women to “never give up on their dreams” – a mantra she says has kept her going.

Her boyfriend DJ Euphonik made a late appearance and avoided having pictures taken, preferring the company of young women at the far end of the bar.

Dance music trio Mi Casa, accompanied by a live band, brought the house down with J’Something’s cool voice.

Performing some of their own tracks and a medley of popular House tunes, they serenaded the ladies with good music. As the dance group went for a break, the lead singer enthused: “It is always a wonderful experience to perform for a female crowd.”

By the end of the evening, branded dresses, coats and shoes had swapped hands.
