Social – Whisky vibes over Jozi skyline

2013-04-28 14:00

Dear Joburg socialites, you like to think of yourselves as fashion trendsetters.

Why then do you insist on dressing the same – or did I miss the memo that autumn/winter equals dressing up in head-to-toe black, accessorised with chunky bling costume jewellery?

I must have because at this week’s Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky event held at The Venue in Greenpark, Sandton, I was one of the few people sporting colour.

The party was to celebrate the tipple’s master distiller, Andy Watts, winning world’s best grain whisky at the annual Whisky Magazine’s World Whisky Awards held in London in March.

I caught a glimpse of model Lerato Moloi in, you guessed it, black. Her skin is looking a bit ashy though, which is something of a surprise since she is – or was – the face of Elizabeth Arden in South Africa and she should have a closet full of Eight Hour Cream.

Actor Atandwa Kani is building a nice profile for himself outside of the giant shadow cast by his father, John. And now that he’s cut off the dreadlocks and got hitched, he’s looking good.

Kani was there with his wife, Thembisa, laughing and having a jolly good time.

Sigh?.?.?.?I love young love, almost as much as I did the great food. Spicy beef kebabs, salmon and wedges, bobotie and rice, and zesty prawns.

Perfect party fare that helped the whisky go down.

DJ Jason Tooray kept us party people on our feet with awesome house and hip-hop. We almost cried when he switched off the music at 11pm and we had to go home.
