Solved: mystery of the missing boards

2010-10-22 07:23

Boards belonging to an estate agency in East London that have been stolen on a continuous basis, were found this week hammered into shape to help a hawker carry his goods.

“Estate agents’ boards are stolen on a continuous basis and the replacement of boards is one of our highest monthly expenses,” Landvest Real Estate agent Sue Brownlie told Dispatch Online.

When a client found the boards in Terminus Street neatly nailed together to form a trunk – complete with a padlock and using signs clearly belonging to Landvest – he took a picture and sent it to the agency.

“We have never been able to catch anyone stealing them so we have never been sure what actually happens to them,” a relieved Brownlie said.

“We’ve even wondered if they had been stolen by our competitors.”

No charges will be brought against the thief, she said.

“We are just relieved to know where they’ve been disappearing to.”
