Somali gunmen abduct Zimbabwean national

Mogadishu – Somali gunmen abducted a Zimbabwean working as a security consultant for aid groups in the war-wrecked country and his Somali aide overnight, officials and witnesses said.

The heavily-armed gunmen stormed a building where the two were staying in the country’s central Adado region and took them away.

Adado district commissioner Mohamed Adan Tiey confirmed the incident and said “we are still investigating”.

Witnesses in the area said the two were snatched by the attackers armed with machine guns and grenades.

“The gunmen, heavily armed with machine guns, stormed the building where the men stayed and they took them.

We don’t know where they have gone to,” said Mohamed Abdullahi, a local elder.

Another Adado resident, Yusuf Muktar, said the abductors came in two vehicles and drove their hostages out of town.

Kidnapping of foreigners and aid workers is rampant in Somalia, a country ravaged by conflict for almost two decades.
